What is Fitbump?
Creation of Fitbump
My fitness journey began in Jasper, Alberta, where I started trail running and biking, and doing pseudo bootcamps with my best friend. I moved to the UK where I played rugby and took part in British Military Fitness classes as well as ran long distance races and obstacle courses. I had a wonderful social life and my love for all things outdoorsy held no bounds. I moved back to Canada to start a family and continued to do these things until I found it I was pregnant...
Then everything stopped. No more rugby as it's a contact sport, it was winter so no exercising outside and I'd never been a gym person. Plus I felt self conscious about my growing body and I wasn't exactly sure what exercise was safe. For nine long months, I didn't do must physical activity and think that was part of the reason I didn't enjoy my pregnancy. After Molly was born, it wasn't any easier, I was cooped up in my home for 3 months, wishing I could get back into the things I used to do before. I took a few Mom & Baby classes which were good but even though new moms were all at classes for the same reason, it was tough to really connect.
That's when I came up with the idea of Fitbump - a fitness studio catering to new and expectant moms. Fitbump offers pregnant women and new moms a place to work out safely while interacting and engaging participants. Pregnancy and new motherhood can be a daunting and lonely journey and Fitbump wants to help you through it. All of our classes are very interactive, with opportunities to talk and vent about the ups and downs of mom life.
My main motivation to start Fitbump was creating a community for moms to find friendship and feel less alone. I then became passionate on educating women on their bodies and Pelvic Floor Health - something I never heard about in Pregnancy or Postpartum. All our classes pay attention to alignment and breathing, and restoring the pelvic floor after pregnancy. The third passion I've discovered along the way is body positivity - and encouraging to learn to appreciate their bodies for the amazing things they can do - not just what they look like. I love using my platform to educate, empower and support women.
